New temperature limit for the hospitality sector

We are currently living in an economic and energy situation marked largely by the conflict in Ukraine. The 10.2% inflation rate in Spain remains the major player in the economic framework and the energy costs and the price of imported supplies cause the decline in the economy of our country. For this reason, the Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, presented the “Shock Plan for Saving and Energy Management in Climate Control”. The minister pointed out that for the Business Confederation of Hospitality of Spain it will be necessary to take into account the comfort of both customers and workers.

The new energy saving measures that have entered into force in Spain on Wednesday, August 10th will include “exceptions and flexibility ranges” in accordance with the legislation on occupational health and workers’ rights, according to the Ministry of Ecological Transition. In this sense, Minister Teresa Ribera has reiterated that the energy saving and efficiency measures contained in the Royal Decree Law enter into force at zero hours on Wednesday, August 10th. These measures include switching off lighting from the 22h in shop windows and public buildings when empty, or the new 00h limits for air conditioning and for heating in the winter months. Therefore, by interpreting the occupational health regulations together with the new energy saving decree, the bar and restaurant premises can be refrigerated below 27º, although not less than 25º.

For her part, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, explained that the energy saving measure that limits heating to 19º and cooling to 27º will have exceptions, as in the case of cold areas in supermarkets or in the kitchens of restaurants.
